Iran's Central Bank head has resigned as the biggest protests since 2022 hit several cities over the currency plunge. Demonstrations erupted in Tehran and other cities after the rial hit a record low against the U.S. dollar. State TV reported Mohammad Reza Farzin's resignation as traders and shopkeepers rallied in downtown Tehran. Police used tear gas in some areas of Tehran. The protests are the largest since the death of Mahsa Jina Amini in police custody in 2022. Iran's rial plunged to 1.38 million to the dollar Monday, worsening inflation and straining budgets. Reports of increased taxes and economic uncertainty have fueled concerns.
