Turkish officials say a police officer has died after being shot during a drug raid in Istanbul. The special operations officer died of his wounds in a hospital Monday. Istanbul Governor’s Office says Officer Emre Albayrak was part of a team carrying out an early morning raid in Cekmekoy, on Istanbul’s Asian side. The office says the man who shot at police was killed and two other suspects were detained. National Police Counter-Narcotics Department report says Turkey has experienced a rise in drug-related crime in recent years with a 23% rise in drug-related incidents last year compared to 2023.
