The Nation's Weather for Wednesday, January 8, 2025
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
A Santa Ana wind event is expected to produce gusts around
30-50 mph in Southern California today. The foothills and
canyons may have frequent gusts of 50-70 mph and even close
to 100 mph. The high winds and dry air will lead to a
heightened wildfire threat. Tree limbs and power lines may
come down, and travel in crosswinds may be dangerous. A
winter storm is expected to emerge from the Sierra Madre of
New Mexico as well as the High Plains in western Texas,
mainly late in the day and night, before spreading snow and
ice farther to the east in Texas Thursday. The lake effect
will produce locally heavy snow to upstate New York,
Michigan, western Pennsylvania, northeastern Ohio,
northwestern Indiana and part of West Virginia. Much of the
eastern two-thirds of the nation will be dry and cold.
