It's been decades since thousands of human bones and bone fragments were unearthed on a suspected Indiana serial killer’s property. Family members, a determined coroner and state researchers are behind a renewed effort to finally determine who they were. Investigators hope to identify all of the unknown dead whose remains are among some 10,000 bones and fragments unearthed on Herbert Baumeister’s suburban Indianapolis property starting in 1996. Baumeister killed himself before police could question him. The original investigators believed the remains could be those of at least 25 people. Authorities have identified nine men so far.
