The lawyer for a man accused of attacking a Colorado reporter has had mental health issues for years. Patrick Egan has been charged with assault, bias-motivated crime and harassment in connection with an attack outside a television station in Grand Junction last month. The reporter told police that he believed he had been targeted because he is Pacific Islander. Egan's lawyer told a judge Thursday that his client is receiving mental health treatment and has friends willing to help him. The judge declined her request to reduce the bond he must pay to be released from jail.
