The French interior minister has announced the arrest of a social media influencer from Algeria who is accused of calling for attacks in France. In a post on X, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said the Algerian was arrested Friday in the Brittany port city of Brest on France’s western coast. The minister said the influencer “called on his community to commit attacks in France.” The arrest comes as France is preparing to mark the tenth anniversary next week of deadly 2015 attacks against the satirical Charlie Hebdo newspaper and a kosher supermarket in Paris. French police said the 25-year-old Algeria-born influencer was detained on suspicion of expressing sympathy for terrorism.
