NATIONAL SUMMARY
A long-duration, lake-effect snow event will ramp up today.
The heaviest snow will fall directly downwind of the Great
Lakes. Heavy snow can create dangerous whiteout travel
conditions along Interstate 90 between Buffalo, New York,
and Erie, Pennsylvania, as well as along I-81 between
Syracuse and Watertown, New York. A few snow showers may
occur throughout Michigan, including the panhandle, much of
upstate New York and Ohio, West Virginia and western
Pennsylvania. An arctic air mass, the coldest of the season
so far, will advance into the Midwest, Ohio River Valley and
central Appalachians from the Plains. The western United
States will largely remain dry and cool. The Southeast will
turn cooler and less humid and may be dry. However, some
