Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door” won the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion award Saturday. The film, which is Almodóvar’s English-language debut and stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, received a nearly 20-minute standing ovation when it premiered at the festival. Nicole Kidman won the best actress award for her portrayal of a CEO in an affair with a young intern in “Babygirl” at the Venice Film Festival, which came to a close Saturday. Kidman was not in attendance. Her director, Halina Reijn read a statement from the actor, revealing that Kidman’s mother died while she was in Venice.
