An anti-settlement protester in the West Bank tells The Associated Press he witnessed Israeli soldiers fatally shoot an American woman participating in a weekly protest outside the town of Beita. A U.S. State Department spokesperson confirmed the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old woman born in Turkey, but did not say whether she had been shot by Israeli troops. The White House said in a statement it was “deeply disturbed” by the killing and called on Israel to investigate what happened. The Israeli military said it was looking into reports that troops had killed a foreign national in the area of the protest. Dr. Ward Basalat told AP the woman was shot in the head and died at the hospital.
