Canadian government officials are weighing whether to intervene in a contract dispute to get freight trains moving again across the country. Lockouts began overnight at Canadian National and CPKC railroads and could cause significant economic harm to businesses and consumers across Canada and the U.S. if the trains don’t resume running soon. Business leaders are fuming, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's administration is pressuring the union and railroads to settle. But they haven't forced arbitration and contract talks have resumed. The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference union represents about 10,000 engineers, conductors and dispatchers. Trudeau is promising to find the right solution quickly to procted the economy.
