A town in Washington state will pay the parents of a teen $15 million to settle a wrongful-death lawsuit they filed after he drowned during a town summer camp outing. Darrell “DJ” McCutcheon, Jr., drowned southwest of Seattle at Anderson Island’s Florence Lake, on July 15, 2022. The Seattle Times reported Monday that Brett Rosen, an attorney for the McCutcheon family, said Steilacoom agreed to pay $15 million to settle the lawsuit. A camp employee that day had left McCutcheon and others at the lake while he went to pick up other children. Bystanders rescued DJ from under water and he died at a hospital. Steilacoom officials declined to comment to the newspaper.
