A CLEANING whizz has warned against certain popular practices to avoid.
They said the tidying mistakes could cost you your finish.
A Redditor posed the cleaning question to the social media platform.
“Worst cleaning ‘tips’ you’ve seen recently?” they asked.
They also included some advice that could do more harm than good for the home.
They pointed out issues in most parts of people’s homes.
The Redditor outlined particularly bad cleaning advice they’ve heard.
“Using toilet cleaner on anything other than a toilet, such as shower grout and acrylic tubs, especially when they let it sit for a long period of time,” they said.
“Guaranteed to ruin your finish.
“Using straight bleach. I saw a video where one woman used undiluted bleach in her trash to get rid of the smell.
“Not only is it an incredibly strong chemical but you don’t want to be mixing it with anything of having it sit in an unvented area like a closed trash can.
” Someone claimed they clean their floors with easy off, obviously oven cleaner can strip the finish off your floors.
“Same with windex, over time the ammonia in Windex can dull the finish on your floors.
“PH-neutral cleaner I’d generally the way to go, even using too much vinegar can damage your finish over time.
“Cleaning everything with bleach.
“You’ll never kill 100% of the germs, and people often use it incorrectly, the fumes aren’t good to breath in, I use it sparingly myself.
“Same goes with powdered cleaners like powdered bleach or bar keepers friend, neither are good to be inhaling.”
Other Redditors chimed in to share their own cleaning don’ts.
“Mixing tons of different cleaners in your toilet,” one said.
“Soaking new clothing in water, vinegar, and salt is how to set the dye permantently,” another added.
“So yes, don’t be using it to remove stains, people.
“But on the other hand, if you just bought black pants that are rubbing off on everything, give them a soak and throw them in the wash, your dye bleeding days are over”
