RYANAIR passengers can get into the holiday mood on their flights this summer, with a brand new range of cocktails now being served on board.
The budget airline has today launched a new in-flight drinks menu, with an array of cocktails from just €9.50 (£8).
There will be seven of the ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages to choose from in total, each with unique names.
Included in those are the likes of the Dublin Lemonade (Jameson Irish Whiskey, Sprite Zero and sparkling water), the Fruit Snack, (Bombay Sapphire Gin, Sprite Zero and Capri-sun), the Rose Spritz (rose wine and Sprite Zero) and the Flying Iced Tea (Bombay Sapphire Gin, Absolut Vodka and Coca-Cola).
Other drinks include the Tennesse Surfer, the French 75 and the Tropical Fizz.
It increases the drinks offerings available on Ryanair‘s flights and provides a new way to prepare for that hard-earned summer break.
Ryanair’s Head of Comms, Jade Kirwan said: “Summer is finally here, and what better way to kickstart your summer holiday than with a delicious cocktail from Ryanair’s new in-flight cocktail menu.
“Adding to our already extensive range of in-flight food and beverage options, our new cocktail range offers a selection of seven ready to drink cocktails, from Flying Iced Tea to French 75 to Rose Spritz and more.”
The drinks will further cut out the need for people to try and bring their own drinks on board flights, something airlines aren’t keen for passengers to do.
Sun Online Travel’s resident flight attendant explained why flight attendants hate having people bringing their own booze on board.
They said: “When we’re serving the drinks, we’re able to maintain some control over how many each person has.
“We can cut off the service to people who’ve clearly had too much and it helps us maintain a calm atmosphere in the cabin.
“However, if people are bringing their own booze on board, we lose that control and we can no longer know how much, or even what, they’ve had.
“There are drinks on board the plane, you can have a drink while you fly, so there’s really no need for you to be sneaking alcohol into your hand luggage.”
The pre-made cocktails will make things easier for flight staff who are also sometimes asked to provide services that they aren’t trained for.
Our cabin crew member continued: “I really hate it when passengers ask me to make them a cocktail or to provide a special meal.
Korean Air
Korean Air won best airline cuisine in last year’s Global Traveler’s awards.
Some of their popular dishes onboard include bibimbap, a Korean rice dish, and ssambap, Korean rice lettuce rolls.
It also made the top 10 for airlines with the best plane food in CN Travelers 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Japan Airlines
Coming in first place in the Reader’s Choice Awards was Japan Airlines.
The airline has partnered with six Michelin-star chefs, each of whom have three stars – so you can expect it to be good.
Passengers can choose bento boxes and miso soups onboard.
Singapore Airlines
Often voted one of the best airlines in the world, it is no surprising Singapore Airlines is said to have some of the best plane food.
Chef Dennis Littley said: “Their gourmet meals rival those of ground-based restaurants.”
Dishes include congee, a rice porridge, as well as Singaporean rice and curry options.
“I’m not a chef, or a mixologist, I have very few items at my disposal in the trolley and can’t really make anything more complicated than a gin and tonic.
“We get people coming on board asking for pina coladas, margaritas and all sorts.
“I don’t know where they think we keep our cocktail shakers, or all our ingredients because it’s tiny bottles, a couple of mixers and not a lot else.
“We’re primarily there for safety, but some passengers assume we’re all fully-trained bar staff.”
The new Ryanair cocktails will be available from today, May 22.
