A woman in her fifties has been mauled to death by her two XL Bully dogs, similar to this dog[/caption]Armed cops were dispatched to Cornwall Close, a quiet cul-de-sac, at around 1pm on Monday following reports of a dog attack.
Before cops arrived the beasts were shut in a room of the house, the Met Police said.
The two dogs, who were registered under the Governments new scheme, were seized by police.
Since February 1, owning an XL bully in England and Wales without a certificate has been a criminal offence.
The breed is said to be “disproportionately involved” in serious and fatal dog attacks.
Several Brits have been killed by members of the breed, including Ian Price, 52, who died in hospital after being attacked by two suspected American XL Bullies and 10-year-old Jack Lis who was savagely mauled to death in 2021.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called to Cornwall Close around 1.12pm on Monday, May 20 to reports of a woman attacked by a dog.
“Due to the threat posed, armed officers attended. After assessing the situation, officers were able to safely seize two dogs.
“These were registered XL Bully dogs and prior to officers’ arrival had been contained inside a room in the house.
“They did not leave the house at any time during the incident.
“The family of the woman, who was the owner of the dogs, are being supported by officers.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and London’s air ambulance.
“We treated a person but sadly, despite our efforts, they were pronounced dead at the scene.”
Police said no arrests have been made.
