WITH temperatures heating up outside, hopefully we’re set for a superb summer, complete with balmy days and warm evenings.
A great fan is a must-buy at this time of year, with the best fans being those that help you keep your cool during a heatwave and incorporate easy-to-use features.
One brand that fits the bill is of course, Dyson. Its iconic fans may come with a premium price tag, but you can trust them to do what they’re supposed to do – keep indoor temperatures low.
What’s more, they look fab and use cutting-edge technology to deliver impressive results, not only cooling, but in the case of the Purifier Cool Autoreact Fan for example, also removing allergens, dust and certain viruses from the air.
While Dyson fans are expensive, at the lower end of the price scale the Dyson Cool AM07 is affordable luxury. It delivers 500 litres per second maximum airflow, oscillates through 70°, has 10 fan speeds and a sleep timer. There’s also a remote control for added convenience.

As far as we can see, Dyson fans do use slightly more electricity than their competitors.
In terms of wattage, the Dyson AM07 Tower Fan comes in at 56 Watts, which is at the upper end of power consumption you’ll find in tower fans.
However, the overall cost of running a fan overnight isn’t enormous; we calculated that running a 70-watt fan overnight could cost as little as 9p.
Dyson cooling fans are expensive, but there are alternatives available if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, or you don’t want to spend a lot of money on something you’re likely to use for just two or three months each year.

You can also buy Dyson fans as refurbished products on Dyson’s own website or on eBay with a hefty discount off the regular price.
The short answer is no. Dyson’s Hot + Cool designs are fans rather than air conditioners and while they do cool you and even feel like they are cooling the room to a certain extent, they do not work in the same way as air conditioners and do not lower the temperature.

Air conditioners suck in warm air, pass it over a refrigerant to cool it, then blow the now-cold air back into the room. An air conditioner will reduce the temperature of a room: you simply set the temperature you want and once the air conditioner reaches that level, it switches off, only clicking back on when the room temperature rises again.
