The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County unanimously approved a plan to not raise the price of school meals for the 10th consecutive year, during a board of education meeting on Wednesday evening.
The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County has unanimously approved a plan to not raise school meal prices for the 10th consecutive year.
The plan for the 2024-25 school year, approved Wednesday, keeps costs flat: breakfast at $1.50, elementary school lunches at $2.75, and middle and high school lunches at $3. The price of milk would remain at 55 cents. Reduced-price breakfast and meal prices at all levels also will remain unchanged.
“The work that our Division of Food and Nutrition does with vendors to maximize the resources available and provide high-quality, nutritious meals to our students is inspiring,” said Superintendent Mark Bedell in a news release.
The school system’s Division of Food and Nutrition Services receives the vast majority of its funding, 73%, from federal reimbursements. About 22% of its funding come from sales of meals and 4% from the state.
In order to qualify for reduce-priced meals, a family of four must make $55,500 or less a year or $2,135 every two weeks.
“The fact that we have been able to keep prices stable in an economy that has been anything but stable has been and continues to be great news for our families,” said Bedell.
