“In a galaxy far, far away…” there is just one day out of the year when it is entirely okay to fan out on all things Star Wars. Well, technically, it’s always okay to show your love for arguably one of the best sci-fi series ever (sorry, not sorry, Star Trek), but on this day in particular, it’s almost required. Of course, I’m referring to May 4th, aka Star Wars Day. For those that don’t know, it’s been dubbed an unofficial holiday for fans all across the globe because of how similar the day’s date sounds to the iconic movie quote, “May the force be with you.” Since 1977, May the fourth has been the day to wear all the merch, dust off all your memorabilia, and rewatch all the classic movies (addressing episodes one through six only).
But this year, Star Wars Day will be even better than before. Not only does the fourth fall on a Saturday, but we’re also celebrating the 25th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The classic movie will be showing in theaters next weekend in honor of its 25th birthday, making the holiday just that more special (If you’re planning to see it, we highly recommend snagging tickets now before they sell out — you can see times in your area here.)
