THERE are few things better than heading to your local supermarket and nabbing yourself an absolute bargain.
So it’s little surprise one savvy shopper went to town when she spotted several food items slashed to just 10p in her local Sainsbury’s.
Dong Lai proudly showed off her mega discounted food haul online[/caption] The discounted item had been slashed to just 10p[/caption]Delighted with her finds, the bargain hunter rushed online to money-saving Facebook group Yellow sticker shopping tips, tricks and hauls.
She proudly shared a photo of her mega food haul that she snapped up during a recent visit to the Heaton Park, Manchester branch.
“Tonight around 9pm all 10p at Sainsbury’s,” she penned.
Amongst the heavily reduced items includes four boxes of Wasabi chicken katsu curry bites, six pizzas, quick cook turkey steaks, gammon steaks and pineapple.
She also nabbed a variety of pastries, along with a nut roast, quorn mini sausage rolls and two lots of bread.
It wasn’t long before the post garnered attention, with many rushing to the comments section – with very mixed responses.
One customer was left less than impressed after Domg seemingky cleared the shelves, and raged: “Yeah leave some for the rest of us lol.”
Elsewhere, others commended Dong on her bargain buys, with one praising: “Wow, that’s brilliant!”
A second enthused: “Sainsbury’s have started to do really good reductions in the last few months. I hope it continues.”
A third commended: “Gosh well done!”
Meanwhile, a fourth added: “Woop woop, great finds, enjoy!”
A further added: “Amazing – well done!”
And one more chimed in: “Never seen such amazing bargains in our Sainsburys Staines – well done, enjoy!”
It’s not the first time a shopper has been blasted online, with Fabulous previously revealed how a Morrisons customer was branded “greedy” after clearing the shelves of slashed Easter eggs.
The bargain hunter snapped up a total of 16 reduced price eggs which had been discounted from £12 to just £1.25 – meaning an impressive £10.75 saving.
“Morrisons this morning, £1.25, marked down wrong…think they where either £10 or £12,” she wrote on Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.
But the revelation didn’t go down well online, with one slamming: “Why don’t you leave it for other people – why have you got a buy 16 you greedy bugger?”
Another noted: “That woman from yesterday who worked at Morrison’s will be livid, you’ll be screenshotted and sent to the group chat.”
The time supermarkets reduce their products vary across stores.
Here’s a rough supermarket-by-supermarket guide:
Aldi
Aldi uses a red sticker to show reductions on fresh products such as bread, meat, fruit and vegetables.
This is when they have reached the last day of shelf life.
Red stickered items are most commonly found at opening and closing times.
M&S
Reduction times can vary from store to store but is most likely to occur near closing time.
Asda
Asda told Which? that yellow stickers are applied twice a day – in the morning and evening.
Co-op
Co-op told The Sun its reduced-to-clear prices are generally applied about four hours before the store closes.
Lidl
Lidl has a similar procedure to Asda and Aldi with reductions twice a day.
However individual stores may opt to reduce prices throughout the day.
Morrisons
Shoppers online have said that Morrisons does the best bargains first thing in the morning.
However, the store told Which? that there are no specific times for yellow sticker price cuts.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s told The Sun it’s at the store manager’s discretion whether to offer discounts.
However, shoppers have reported that the best deals are in the evening from 6pm.
Tesco
Tesco has said there is no specific time for reduction, but again most people found that prices were reduced from 6pm.
Waitrose
As with most of the other stores, Waitrose shoppers have said the best reductions are found before closing.
However the store stated that there is no specific time for yellow stickers to be applied.
