BRITS are leading the charge for this year’s Oscars — with atomic bomb thriller Oppenheimer dominating today’s shortlist with 13 nominations.
Christopher Nolan, 53, is up for best director and Emily Blunt, 40, best supporting actress — yet there was shock as Margot Robbie got a best actress snub for blockbuster Barbie.
Carey Mulligan, 38, kept the UK flag flying, meanwhile, as best actress nominee for Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro.
Londoner Jonathan Glazer, 58, was put forward as the best director for historical drama The Zone Of Interest.
Irish star Cillian Murphy, 47, landed a first Oscar plug for best actor in lauded Oppenheimer, a three-hour epic.
Next for nominations were Poor Things with 11 and Killers of the Flower Moon with ten, yet doll-themed fantasy Barbie trailed behind them with eight.
However, Ryan Gosling, 43, as Ken, and America Ferrera, 39, were nominated as best supporting actor and actress in the film, which raked in £1.1billion as the year’s biggest box office hit.
Ryan’s track I’m Just Ken and Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For, both recorded for the soundtrack, are nominated for best original song.
Eilish wrote online: “We are endlessly grateful for this honour and to have been a part of Barbie.”
Maestro, produced by Netflix, received seven nods in the competition while Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, The Zone of Interest and American Fiction landed five each.
There was joy for Tom Cruise, 61, as his Mission: Impossible franchise was nominated for the first time.
Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning (Part One), the seventh film in the series, is in the running for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
Despite being one of the most talked-about films of awards season, black comedy Saltburn was snubbed, as was Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott’s All of us Strangers.
The ceremony will take place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on March 10.
