David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, was fined $300,000 by the NFL after he appeared to throw a drink in the direction of Jaguar fans near the end of 26-0 loss in Jacksonville on Sunday.
A viral video shows Tepper in a box seat at the Jaguar’s EverBank Stadium, and he appears to throw the contents of his drink into the stands below him before tossing the cup and walking away.
The NFL fined Tepper for “unacceptable” conduct, The Associated Press reported.
“All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL,” the statement said.
Tepper released his own statement, reported by the AP.
“I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the league’s discipline for my behavior,” the billionaire’s statement said.
His reaction, which was filmed and shared online, came after the rookie quarterback Bryce Young threw an interception with less than three minutes to go in the Panther’s scoreless game.
The Panthers have a 2-14 record in the 2023 season after Sunday’s game.
