MOUNTAIN VIEW — A man who authorities believe was driving under the influence was arrested early Thursday morning, after a single-car crash on Highway 101 in Mountain View left a passenger dead, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP Redwood City Ofc. Arturo Montiel confirmed that officers responded to the collision at 3:43 a.m. Thursday morning on southbound Highway 101. A 2019 Ford Edge carrying a driver and two additional passengers hit the concrete divider between Highway 101 and Highway 85, killing the passenger in the front-right seat.
The deceased victim, a man, had not been publicly identified by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner as of Thursday afternoon. An additional passenger sitting in the rear-left seat was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver, a 23-year-old San Jose resident, was arrested on suspicion of a felony for driving under the influence and transported to Santa Clara County Main Jail, Montiel said. He suffered minor injuries in the crash.
