A Wisconsin man was arrested at Bradley International Airport for allegedly threatening a sandwich shop employee and using a racial slur, according to the Connecticut State Police.
State police said the victim, who works at D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches in the airport, made an announcement Saturday to waiting customers that the business had run out of bread and they could only make orders as wraps. According to state police, that led to Michael Barnet, 38, using profanity toward the employee and threatening them.
Troopers responded to the sandwich shop at about 6:33 p.m. on the report of a disturbance. A witness reportedly said Barnet yelled at the employee and referred to them using a racial slur, according to state police.
The Wisconsin man was located in the airport’s west concourse, where he was taken into custody without incident, state police said. He faces charges of third-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. He has been released on a $2,500 bond and is set to face a judge in Hartford Superior Court on April 25.
The Connecticut State Police Hate Crimes Unit was notified of the arrest.
