A southwestern Missouri sheriff says a man has been fatally shot by deputies who responded to a convenience store theft Friday morning. Television station KY3 reports that the shooting happened shortly after Green County Sheriff's deputies were called around 8:15 a.m. to the store just southwest of Springfield. The store clerk said a woman had stolen from the store, and deputies found her at a nearby abandoned house and arrested her. A short time later at the house, deputies say they shot an armed man they encountered when he lunged at them. Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott has not released the names of the man or the deputies.
