SHAKIRA is again at war with her ex Gerard Pique after he claimed diss tracks like hers could cause someone to commit suicide.
The Colombian pop star was less than impressed with his comments during an interview with streamer Gerard Romero last weekend.
Pique took the opportunity to air his opinion of her scathing new song, while making a series of thinly-veiled jabs towards the mother of his children.
He was savaged by Shakira fans after appearing to take aim at her nationality, as well as questioning her sensitivity to mental health.
The former Barcelona ace also moaned about how he and his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti have been targeted by online trolls after his ex penned a number of diss songs.
But he refused to even refer to Shakira by name during the interview, instead dubbing her as “la otra”, which in English would ironically mean “the other woman.”
He said: “The subject of throwing beef is all very well, it’s fashionable, but we don’t think about the consequences it can have on a mental level for the person they throw it at.
“It works out very great for one person and it’s great, but we don’t think about the other person afterwards.
“What has to happen? Maybe someone commits suicide and we say, ‘Oh, we’ve gone too far?’ I’m very disappointed with what society is.”
But Pique’s holier-than-thou approach to the topic didn’t sit well with Shakira’s supporters, who pointed out he had done his fair share of ridiculing his former partner.
He then managed to land himself in further hot water by continuing his anti-bullying rant, while strangely bringing up the singer’s roots.
The Spain World Cup winner continued: “My ex-partner is Latin American.
“You don’t know what I’ve ended up receiving on social media from people who are fans of hers. Barbarities.
“It doesn’t bother me, it bothers me zero, because I don’t know them at all, it’s people who don’t have lives.
“What importance do you have to give them?
“Zero importance, because you’re never going to get to know them ever, they’re like robots.”
Pique’s attempt to appear unbothered by opinions on social media created a fresh storm of outrage among Shakira’s supporters.
He was accused of using the term “Latin American” in a derogatory fashion and unnecessarily made a point of referring to where she comes from.
One fan took to his Instagram to remind him of one of Shakira’s lyrics from her diss track with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap released earlier this year.
The singer suggested her gym-loving ex should spend some time training his brain too, and her supporters seconded her opinion.
The comment read: “I’ve just listened to the podcast that’s circulating and I just want to say that Shakira was right when she said: ‘Work your brain a little as well’.”
But Shakira was willing to voice her own disapproval of the alleged love rat’s apparent put-down and shocking comments.
Taking to Twitter, she made it clear she is honoured by her heritage and adores her home city of Barranquilla in Colombia.
Shakira simply wrote: “Proud of being a Latin American,” followed by emojis of 29 flags which included those of her homeland, Argentina and Brazil.
A fan slammed Pique’s remarks, saying: “It’s a demonstration of the xenophobia towards us that Latinos that exists in Spain and only those living there can understand it.”
Another said: “I agree with several things Pique said but I don’t understand why he emphasised that his ex is Latin American.
“What has that got to do with anything?”
Brazilian journalist Alexandre Putti also backed the singer’s stance, saying: “We are proud to have you as our Latin American representative Shakira.”
Pique took part in the bombshell interview on Sunday – the same day his ex left Barcelona with their two sons Sasha and Milan to start a new life in Miami after a holiday in an undisclosed destination.
Shakira was seen looking teary-eyed as she said goodbye to her family and friends to “start a new chapter in the search for happiness.”
It was then reported that the Hips Don’t Lie artist had been served with an “eviction notice” by Pique’s dad to leave her former family home, putting the final nail in the coffin.
It is claimed that she received the letter after she performed her diss song targeting Pique and his new girlfriend on the Jimmy Fallon late-night show last month.
Shakira is expected to enjoy a few days’ holiday in an undisclosed location with her kids before they start at a private school just north of Miami on April 11.
She and Pique announced their split last May after 11 years together.
They confirmed in November they had reached a child custody agreement after a protracted negotiation which came to a head with a marathon 12-hour meeting with their lawyers.
They signed the accord at a court in Barcelona the following month.
As part of the agreement, Pique will spend holiday time with his children.
But Shakira will be forced to return to Barcelona to face a £12million tax fraud trial – although no date has yet been set.
She has denied any wrongdoing after being charged with six counts of tax fraud prosecutors say she committed between 2012 and 2014.
