Philadelphia Phillies pitchers and catchers will have their first Spring Training workout on Thursday, Feb. 16, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.
The defending National League Champions will have their first full squad workout on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Rob Thomson’s team will have their first Grapefruit League action on Saturday, Feb. 25. That day will see split-squad action, with the Phillies hosting the New York Yankees at BayCare Ballpark and also taking on the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland. Both games will start at 1:05 p.m. ET. NBC Sports Philadelphia and SportsRadio 94 WIP have not yet released their broadcast schedules for the spring slate.
Of course, there will be quite a bit less star power for the Phillies during 2022 Spring Training. Bryce Harper is out as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery. The World Baseball Classic will also take some key members away from Clearwater for a portion of spring, with Kyle Schwarber (USA), Trea Turner (USA), J.T. Realmuto (USA) and Garrett Stubbs (Israel) among those will participate in the event.
The WBC is being played for the first time since 2017, with Team USA looking to defend their title. The WBC will run from March 8-21. Mike Axisa of CBS Sports says that pitchers playing in the WBC will have to report to Spring Training on Monday, Feb 13, with position players set to arrive on Thursday, Feb. 16.
