Seagulls can set new Cymru North record
COLWYN BAY can set a new JD Cymru North record for the longest winning run if they can beat bottom-of-the-table Penrhyncoch at the 4 Crosses Arena on Saturday (2pm kick off).
It would be their 17 consecutive win in the league, beating the previous record of 16 held jointly by Airbus UK and Guilsfield from last season, and would see them top 50 points for the first time since joining the league.
Although they did get to 50 points with seven games left unplayed in the curtailed 2019/20 seson, they had three of those points from a 3-0 win at Rhyl deducted due to Rhyl resigning and having their record expunged.
Penrhyncoch have won only two of their 16 league games so far, have picked up only one point from seven away games, and have the worst defensive record in the division, but Bay boss Steve Evans will be warning his players against any complacency.
They are currently in a good position to beat Airbus’s final points total of 72 and goal difference of +62 last season, and with six goals in the last four games, skipper Tom McCready will be looking to continue his rich vein of form, which currently makes him favourite to finish the season as the side’s top scorer.
Before Saturday’s game, the Manchester ‘derby’ between City and United will be on the big screen in the clubhouse from 12:30.
