Journalist claims Newcastle are more likely to sign midfielder than Spurs 

Journalist Dean Jones has suggested that Leandro Trossard is more likely to end up at Newcastle United or Chelsea than at Spurs during the current transfer window.

Multiple publications (Daily Mail and Football.London) have reported over the last few days that Spurs have expressed an interest in signing Trossard, who has been one of Brighton’s most consistent performers this season, with 10 goal contributions in 16 matches so far (Transfermarkt). 

90 min claimed on Tuesday that the Seagulls had taken up the option to extend the Belgian international’s contract until 2024 but added that they would be open to selling the attacker at the right price.

The report explained that although Trossard is not Spurs’ top target, the North London club are being kept informed of the player’s situation.

Back in October, The Northern Echo reported that the Brighton winger was on Newcastle’s radar. Although the speculation has since died down, Jones believes that the former Genk man is more likely to end up at St James’ Park than the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “The Trossard link to Tottenham is interesting because his versatility would really suit them.

“However, if he is really going to move, then I would say both Chelsea and Newcastle are also going to be in that conversation and might be more likely landing spots given their level of interest and power in this current market.”

Spurs Web Opinion 

Trossard would not just be able to cover for Son Heung-min on the left but he can also play as a number eight in a 3-5-2 and could even be used as a wing-back in case of an injury crisis. 

So, one can understand why the 28-year-old would be an appealing option for Conte, compared to players like Marcus Edwards or Wilfried Zaha, who can only effectively play in one position.
