A MUM has shared a heartbreaking picture of her daughter using an oxygen mask as a warning to other parents.
Sur, who lives in a flat in Birmingham with her two kids, has been forced to beg the local council to relocate her family.
She said she needs to move “before it’s too late” as damp and mould takes over their home.
It comes after medics spent five days trying to stabilise her daughter Meena’s breathing after she was exposed to the conditions.
The five-year-old girl was hospitalised over Christmas leaving her desperate mum, 33, having constant sleepless nights.
Sur told BirminghamLive: “I am very frightened, I do not want a lot, I do not expect a lot, just somewhere that is safe for my children where they can breathe and get well.”
Sur, who is originally from Iraq, says she has done everything she can to ventilate the flat – but nothing is helping the dire situation.
The constant stress and concern for her children’s health has meant Sur has lost a lot of weight.
She said the home doesn’t feel safe for her family anymore.
Birmingham City Council said they are currently in contact with Sur to get the property treated.
A spokesperson said: “We are very sorry to hear about the family’s illness and that the mould at their property has returned.
“A housing officer has been in contact with them to arrange for it to be treated again as a matter of priority and will discuss with the family their alternative housing options in line with our allocation policy.
“The council have also produced a leaflet about housing issues, including mould, which will be sent to all tenants shortly giving advice on how black mould can be treated and kept at bay.”
