Sport have revealed that Barcelona are poised to sign rumoured Tottenham target N’Golo Kante on a free transfer next summer.
Kante’s days at Stamford Bridge appear to be numbered, with the midfielder’s current deal with Chelsea set to run out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham’s interest in the Frenchman first came to light back in October when Foot Mercato reported that Chelsea are not likely to offer the midfielder a new deal. The report also added that Spurs and Arsenal had already made contact with the player’s entourage.
Foot Mercato explained that the former Leicester City man prefers to remain in London, which could be an advantage to the North London clubs.
However, Sport have now revealed that Barcelona are ‘advancing’ in their efforts to snap up Kante when he becomes a free agent next summer.
The report claims that the Catalan giants have ‘practically closed’ the bases of the agreement with the player’s entourage and that the preliminary deal could be reached as early as January.
It is alleged that Kante will not be renewing his contract with Chelsea and that he has decided to leave the Premier League in search of a new challenge.
Spurs Web Opinion
One can understand why Spurs would have explored a deal for Kante, given his contract situation and his existing relationship with Antonio Conte. However, I never thought that we were likely to win the race for the midfielder as he would have always been wary of what a move to Tottenham would do to his legacy at Chelsea.
