US Bank has launched a brand-new cash-back credit card, and it's sure to brighten up your wallet, with high earning rates on popular retail brands (such as Amazon and Walmart) and new LED technology. The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card is a terrific card for almost any household, but if you typically spend more than $1,500 per quarter on retail, you may do better with a different cash-back card.

Cash-back cards are some of the most rewarding credit cards out there, and the brand-new U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card could be a new crowd favorite. Cardholders can match their current spending habits by earning up to 6% cash back at two eligible retailers of their choosing (including Amazon, Walmart, and Chewy), as well as 3% cash back on an everyday category of their choice (such as gas and EV charging, or wholesale clubs). 

It's important to note that the 6% and 3% cash-back earning rates are both capped after the first $1,500 spent in combined purchases each quarter (then earn 1.5%). This could be especially limiting to folks who easily spend more than $1,500 in retail purchases per quarter (around $375 per month). If that's the case, you may be better off with a different rewards card. 

The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card offers a generous welcome bonus of U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card. And it's especially eye-catching as it's charging an annual fee of U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card.

Speaking of eye-catching, the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card is the first to include LED-powered technology in the card's plastic. The US Bank logo lights up when you make a contactless transaction, and select new cardholders will receive this version of the card at no extra cost.

In addition to earning rewards on retail and everyday spending, cardholders can earn 5.5% cash back on hotels and car rentals booked through the US Bank Rewards Center. So if you're an occasional traveler, and you don't mind being limited to Rewards Center bookings, you can do very well with the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card.  

If you're a fan of Visa Signature benefits, the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card has got you covered. Like many other US Bank credit cards, this card gets you exclusive deals, discounts, and offers for entertainment, shopping, and travel events. Plus, you'll receive complimentary access to the Visa Concierge Service.

Otherwise, you'll get some decent travel and purchase protection perks (like return protection and roadside assistance), but nothing that knocks your socks off. If you're looking for premium card perks, consider applying for a credit card with a higher annual fee. 

The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card, unfortunately, doesn't offer a 0% intro APR on balance transfers or purchases, so it's not an ideal card for consolidating debt or saving on interest.

That said, a similar rewards credit card with a strong intro APR offer also worth considering is the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. It has a Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express (then a Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express APR), as well as a similar welcome bonus and annual fee to the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card.

On the other hand, if you're looking to earn rewards on broader spending categories without comprising the reward customization aspect of the card, then you should give the U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card a look. It earns 5% cash back in two eligible categories of your choice, up to $2,000 in combined purchases per quarter (then 1% back); and earns 2% cash back at grocery stores, gas stations, EV charging stations, or restaurants. 

We're focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won't be worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

How to earn rewards from the US Bank Shopper Cash Rewards card

The highlight of the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card is the 6% cash back earning rate on purchases from two major retail brands of your choice (from a select list). However, the 6% rate is capped at the first $1,500 in combined purchases each quarter (then earn 1.5% back).

Still, that means you'll be able to spend about $375 per month in combined purchases from both retail brands of your choice. On retail purchases alone, you can earn up to $90 in bonus cash each quarter (up to $360 per year). 

This is what you'll earn with the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card: 

• 6% back on two retail brands of your choice, on your first $1,500 in combined eligible purchases each quarter (then 1.5% back)
• 5.5% back on prepaid hotel and car reservations booked directly through the Rewards Travel Center
• 3%  back on your choice of one everyday category (such as gas and EV charging stations, wholesale clubs, and bills and utilities), up to your first $1,500 in eligible purchases (then 1.5% back)
• 1.5% cash back on all other eligible purchases

How to use rewards from the US Bank Shopper Cash Rewards

The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card lets you redeem rewards as a statement credit, a rewards card ($25 minimum to redeem), a gift card, or direct deposit into an eligible US Bank account.

LED technology

In a unique twist, US Bank is piloting a version of the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card that has LED-powered technology built into the card's plastic. This lights up the card's US Bank logo when it's used for contactless transactions, and is available to select cardholders while supplies last at no additional cost. If you don't receive an LED version of at first, you may be able to upgrade to one in the future, depending on availability.

U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card cardholders get a handful of significant discounts, upgrades, and exclusive access to travel, entertainment, fine wine and food, sports, and shopping locations and events. Extended warranty

When you use your U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card for to purchase an eligible item that has a manufacturer's warranty, your warranty coverage can be doubled up to one additional year on eligible warranties of three years or less. Registering your purchase (by calling 800-551-8472) is an optional step; otherwise, be sure to keep your monthly billing statement showing the purchase, the itemized sales receipt, and the original US manufacturer's warranty in case you need to file a claim.

Return protection

If you purchase an eligible item with your U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card and the retailer won't take it back, you could be reimbursed within 90 days of the date of purchase, on up to $250 per item (up to $1,000 annual maximum per account). 

Purchase security

When you use your U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card to purchase an eligible item, you can be covered for theft or damage within the first 90 days of purchase. This purchase protection has a limit of up to $10,000 per claim and up to $50,000 per cardholder.

Roadside dispatch

You'll get access to the 24/7 roadside dispatch hotline for assistance on emergency services such as towing, jump-starting, or winching. The dispatch service is complimentary, but you'll be responsible for the cost of any actual services provided. 

Travel and emergency assistance services

If you encounter trouble while away from home and need emergency assistance, you can contact the hotline for help arranging legal and medical referrals, as well as prescriptions, transaction services, and more. Like the roadside dispatch service, it's free of charge, but you'll be responsible for the cost of any third-party services. 

Emergency card replacement and cash disbursement

In the case of needing a card replacement or emergency cash, you can request assistance at any time, anywhere in the world.

Lost/stolen card reporting

You can receive assistance services 24/7 anywhere in the world if you need to report your credit card as lost or stolen.

The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card has a U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card APR.

The card has fees for balance transfers, cash advances, late payments, and returned payments. It also charges a foreign transaction fee, so it's not ideal for international purchases.

The new U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card is worth it for folks who spend big on popular retail brands and everyday spending categories. Plus, along with a generous welcome bonus of U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card, you'll pay an annual fee of U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card. 

However, with the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card both 6% and 3% earning categories are capped at $1,500 per quarter (then 1.5% back). So if you typically exceed that amount on retail/everyday spending purchases, then you might want to switch to different cash-back card. The U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card is also not ideal for international purchases, or for folks looking to pay down credit card debt with a 0% introductory APR offer. 

What credit score do you need to qualify for the Shopper Cash Rewards card?

To be considered for the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards™ Visa Signature® Card you should have a good or excellent credit score (FICO score of at least 670).

What is US Bank ExtendPay?

ExtendPay is a new payment option for folks who need to divide up their credit card purchases into monthly payments with no interest. But keep in mind, it still charges a fixed monthly fee. Also, not all purchases made with your credit card are eligible for the payment plan; only purchases made within 60 days prior to signing up to ExtendPay and are over $100 (and less than your purchase balance when you sign up) are eligible for the plan. 

If you're eligible for the ExtendPay Plan, you'll receive a notification in your email or you can check your ExtendPay options in your online account details.

How do I redeem cash back on my US Bank Shopper Cash Rewards card? 

You'll be able to redeem your cash-back rewards at any point through the online Rewards Center (which can be accessed once you log into your account and select "Redeem"), or by calling the Cardmember Services number on the back of your card.
