A grandmother’s loved ones worst fears were confirmed after her remains were found inside a 22 foot long snake in Indonesia.
Her grim death at the hands of the monster python was revealed after villagers cut the serpent’s bulging belly open.
The family of Jahrah, 54, had become worried last week after she disappeared while collecting rubber from a plantation in Jambi province.
It is thought that she was likely swallowed whole after being bitten and suffocated to death.
Now villagers in the Tanjung Jabung Barat regency are on edge after a number of other giant reticulated python have been spotted in the area.
After she failed to return last Friday night, relatives called the emergency services, who began searching woodland.
By Sunday morning, horrified locals had found the enormous snake stretched out in a clearing with its stomach bulging.
Grim pictures and video show their fears being confirmed when they cut open the animal to discover the petite grandmother’s remains curled up inside her.
Residents carrying machetes and sticks were seen in crowds at the scene.
Footage shows one man striking the reptile with a stick before it is trapped.
The animal’s chopped up remains were then put in a bag after being covered with a tarpaulin.
Anto, Head of the Terjun Gajah village where Jahrah lived, said the snake is believed to have attacked Jahrah by biting her and then wrapping itself around her to suffocate her.
She was then eaten in a grim ordeal that would have taken at least two hours from her head to her toes.
The official added: ‘Residents killed the snake and dissected its stomach contents.
‘Everyone was astonished.
‘It turned out that the woman we were looking for was in the snake’s stomach.’
Anto said no residents witnessed when Jahrah was eaten by a snake as she went to the garden alone.
He said that the atmosphere in his village was now tense because a number of giant pythons have been seen in the village.
Previously residents tried to catch a snake that was longer, allegedly measuring around 27ft.
But its enormous size meant they could not capture it.
Anto continued: ‘Previously there were three people who found and tried to catch a 27ft long snake, but failed.
‘Villagers are now worried that bigger snakes are still in the forest.
exclusive Rishi licked lips during 'hollow' PM speech in 'self-reassurance' gesture‘The presence of this giant snake has also swallowed two resident goats.’
Indonesia has a large population of giant reticulated pythons, which live in remote forests and feed on wild animals, and very occasionally humans.
In March 2017, Akbar Salubiro was cut from the stomach of a python after being eaten alive on the Indonesian island of West Sulawesi.
In July this year, two small dogs were found inside the belly of a python in Thailand.
Meanwhile, in the UK earlier this month, a woman woke from a nap to find a three foot corn snake attempting to get into her bedroom.
