Nancy Pelosi, a supposedly devout Catholic who believes late-term abortions are “sacred ground,” called pro-life Republicans a “cult” on Monday.
Pelosi, a California Democrat, criticized pro-life Republican leaders as many anticipate the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade soon. If that happens, states will be allowed to protect unborn babies from abortion again, and most Republican-led states already are preparing to do so.
In a video Monday published by The Hill, Pelosi compared the Republican Party to a “cult” because its leaders are working to protect unborn babies’ right to life.
“I want the Republican Party to take back the party to where you were when you cared about a woman’s right to choose, you cared about the environment,” she said. “Here I am, Nancy Pelosi, saying this country needs a strong Republican Party, and we do. Not a cult, but a strong Republican Party.”

Others, however, would say the “cult” description more aptly describes Pelosi’s own fervent abortion advocacy.
The Democrat leader supports the killing of unborn babies in abortions up to birth and wants to force taxpayers to pay for them – positions that most Americans consider too extreme. Once she referred to late-term abortions as “sacred ground.”
Under Pelosi’s control, the U.S. House passed a radical pro-abortion bill last fall that would legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth and end bans on sex-selection abortions and partial-birth abortions, according to National Right to Life.
Meanwhile, her party and its pro-abortion allies are working to push out pro-life Democrat lawmakers, sending the message that people who believe human rights should be for all human beings are not welcome anymore.
Last week, Republican U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley described abortion as a “religion for the far left.”
“They are willing to do anything to defend that religion and to force it on everybody else,” the pro-life Missouri senator told Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “And that’s why they are willing to burn down the court as an institution.”
Pelosi and other pro-abortion Democrats are panicking after news broke last week about a leaked draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade.
The 1973 ruling forces states to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions up to viability and allows states to legalize abortions up to birth. Since then, about 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe, legal” abortions.
Now, the Supreme Court has the opportunity to overturn Roe through the Mississippi abortion case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health and allow states to protect unborn babies from abortion again. The Guttmacher Institute predicts as many as 26 states would ban abortions if that happens.
Polls consistently show that most Americans support strong legal protections for unborn babies – more than what Roe allows. LifeNews highlighted 11 recent polls here. A new Rasmussen poll this week shows more Americans want Roe v. Wade overturned (48 percent) than want the ruling to remain in place (45 percent).
