Ryan Reynolds celebrates Rob McElhenney’s birthday with a commemorative urinal inside Wrexham AFC's stadium, a football club the two actors co-own.
Ryan Reynolds celebrates Rob McElhenney’s birthday in an undeniably unique way - with a commemorative urinal. The Canadian actor has enjoyed a steady rise to Hollywood stardom over the years, starting with a role in the ABC sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (later retitled to just Two Guys and a Girl). Since then, he has starred in a range of films, with his biggest commercial success coming from the Deadpool movies. Last year alone, Reynolds starred in Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Free Guy, and Red Notice. This year is shaping up to be just as busy for Reynolds with The Adam Project having already released on Netflix and another movie, Spirited, slated for release on Apple TV+ this holiday season.
McElhenney, meanwhile, is best known for his role as Ronald "Mac" McDonald on the long-running FX/FXX sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which he also produces, co-writes, and co-directs. The multi-hyphenate also expanded his repertoire with another comedy, Mythic Quest, for Apple TV+. Reynolds and McElhenney recently joined forces for a business venture when they purchased the struggling Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC, a story that will be chronicled by a documentary series on FX, Welcome to Wrexham.
Now, Ryan Reynolds is celebrating McElhenney’s birthday with a commemorative urinal in the bathroom of Wrexham AFC's stadium in Wales, The Racecourse. In a 30-second video posted to his Instagram, Reynolds introduces the football club's co-chairman by his full name, Robert Lucinda McElhenney, and proceeds to unveil the memorial urinal, followed by some obligatory champagne popping. This isn't the first time the Deadpool star has trolled the It's Always Sunny creator on his birthday. Last year, Reynolds posted a video jokingly struggling to pronounce McElhenney’s name. Now, with an entire year's worth of practice behind him, Reynolds is able to pronounce his business partner's name without any noticeable struggle. Reynolds and McElhenney have been invariably linked since they purchased Wrexham AFC together a few years ago and it seems like that will continue to be the case in the lead-up to their new docuseries coming to FX.
Reynolds is a successful businessman known for his various ventures such as Aviation Gin and Mint Mobile. Other than an opportunity to poke fun at his business partner, Ryan Reynolds' frequent Rob McElhenney-related posts appear to be a savvy attempt to drum up excitement for Welcome to Wrexhan, which should arrive sometime this year. If these social media posts are any indication, the docuseries should be filled with plenty of hilarious antics and frivolity behind-the-scenes.
