WICHITA, Kan. — The Friends University Falcons completed the series sweep Saturday (Apr. 2) winning a pair of games 2-1 and 6-5 over the York College Panthers at West Side Athletic Field.
Devin Dodson (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) got the start for the Falcons in the opener and shined, striking out a season-high seven batters, while allowing just one run on three hits in seven innings.
The Panthers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, but an RBI single through the right side by Max Coyt (SR/Hanford, Calif.) tied the ballgame in the next half-inning.
Then, Pablo Oden (SR/Hollywood, Fla.) gave the Falcons a lead they would not relinquish with a single in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Jared Berard (SR/Tacoma, Wash.).
In the nightcap, the Falcons fell behind 4-1 before scoring one run in each of the third, sixth, and seventh innings to force extra innings.
Jesus Licon led off the top of the eighth with a long single before scoring on a single by Charlie Konstantino to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead headed into the final half-inning.
Dakota Harding (SO/Wichita, Kan.) and Sam Engberg (SO/Kearney, Neb. ) reached to lead off the bottom of the eighth, then Oliver Dunn (FR/Endeavour Hills, Australia) drove them in with a walk-off double to center to finish the sweep.
Coyt finished the day with four hits and two RBIs, while Caleb Coats (SO/Katy, Texas) and Dunn each had two hits in the second half of the doubleheader.
The Falcons travel to Oklahoma City on Tuesday (Apr. 5) to take on (RV) Mid America Christian before returning to West Side Athletic Field for a three-game set against Sterling next weekend.
