TLC’s new 90 Day Fiancé season 9 trailer on Instagram has been downvoted by fans. 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5 is nearly at its end, with the 90DF: B90 finale and Tell-All part 1 airing on Sunday, April 3. While fans saw mostly new cast members on B90, with the exception of Usman Umar AKA Sojaboy, many of them attained villain status. This is why fans are looking forward to meeting the new faces from 90 Day Fiancé season 9 as soon as this messy season is over. Perhaps to make fans more excited for the new season, TLC decided to rope in the couples for a new music video-inspired teaser.
Six new couples and two familiar faces are participating in 90 Day Fiancé season 9, which premieres on Sunday, April 17. Ariela Weinberg and Biniyam Shibre have left their 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days spin-off behind to start a fresh chapter in their lives in the U.S. Joining them in the race to get married within 90 days, before their international partner’s K-1 visa expires, is a fun and diverse mix of pairs. These duos are already gaining popularity on social media. However, not all of the seven couples have been featured in the new TLC trailer for 90 Day Fiancé season 9. which has created confusion among long-time viewers.
Fans were surprised to see TLC share a video captioned, “Let the countdown begin” on the 90 Day Fiancé Instagram page, which promoted the upcoming 90DF season. The 30-second clip featured four couples: Emily and Kobe, Jibri and Miona, Kara and Guillermo, and Yvette and Mohamed. A suspenseful cover of “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys played in the background during the dreamy and magical sequence. Each couple shares moments of love and stress that they experienced in different setups during the montage, perhaps suggesting how their storyline would fare under different 90 Day Fiancé circumstances. However, the comments section of the post is filled with negative remarks, such as, “Wtf is this ??? A movie trailer” and, “This ad is weird AF.”
One TLC viewer posted that it looks like a soap opera commercial. Someone wanted to know “who on the backstreet boys team okayed this.” A different fan tagged TLC and wrote, “this looks like it’s gonna be scripted.” Another top comment says, “how dare you use @backstreetboys CLASSIC for this show… blasphemous to 100th power.” Fans observed that it could be TLC’s idea of getting 90 Day Fiancé to look less “trashy.” However, it’s also ended up making it look “more and more” like a setup. A fan compared the trailer to the promos that one usually sees in Bachelor Nation.
TLC getting fans to view the show through a brand-new lens could also mean that this season's 90 Day Fiancé could be a surprise package. The original show has couples that have the most real stories to tell, who also have higher relationship success rates compared to the couples in the spin-offs. Considering the couples in the music video-style piece may have already gotten married by now, calling their unique journeys fairytales does make sense. Why Ariela and Biniyam or 90DF's Bilal and Shaeeda don’t feature in the teaser isn't clear. Could it be a hint that they’re not together and hence weren’t available to star in the dream sequence?
