Phoenix (AP) — A student found to have a gun on campus at a high school in metro Phoenix was detained and the weapon was confiscated, police and school officials said Wednesday.
No one was hurt in the incident at Verrado High School, the Buckeye Police Department said in a brief statement. “There is no threat to the school or community," the statement said.
It wasn't mediately clear whether the gun was loaded and how authorities learned of it, but an Agua Friday High School District statement said school administrators and an on-campus police officer immediately responded “as soon as the threat was reported."
“Due to their diligence and quick response all students were evacuated and remained safe," according to the district's statement.
The district said campus was “safe and secure" but that school was canceled and students dismissed for the day due to the incident.
Additional information was not released and the school district superintendent and the police department's spokesperson did not immediately return calls for comment.
