Obi-Wan Kenobi's first trailer confirmes the Jedi master leaving Tatooine won't be a plot hole seeing as how he won't be abandoning his mission.
It's been confirmed that Obi-Wan Kenobi's titular Jedi master leaving Tatooine won't be a plot hole in his upcoming series. Instead, it seems as though leaving the desert world will actually be fulfilling Kenobi's mission at its most dangerous. To protect the galaxy's hope, Obi-Wan will have no choice but to leave Tatooine (temporarily, of course).
In the first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the former member of the fallen Jedi Order is now a hermit, ten years into his exile on Tatooine following the end of the Clone Wars, the rise of the Empire, and the Jedi Purge seen in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Believing that the fight is lost and over, Kenobi's mission has been to stay hidden to watch over young Luke Skywalker in the hope that he'll one day grow up to free the galaxy from the oppression of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, Obi-Wan's corrupted apprentice and Luke's own father. However, it seems as though the unexpected happens when Darth Vader's Inquisitors come to Tatooine in search of Jedi.
Featuring a collection of Jedi-hunters such as Fifth Brother and the Grand Inquisitor himself, a new Inquisitor known only as Reva is seen on the hunt and addressing the people of Tatooine. This includes Luke's Uncle Owen, whom Reva faces directly, as confirmed by official images. As such, the danger posed to Luke is extremely high, regardless of whether or not the Inquisitors were drawn to Kenobi's connection to the Force or young Skywalker's. Seeing as how the rest of the trailer sees Obi-Wan and the Inquisitors on a new planet known as Daiyu, it can be inferred that Kenobi leaves Tatooine in order to draw them away from Luke. As a result, Kenobi won't be abandoning his mission in his new series by leaving.
The possibility also exists that Kenobi will be encouraged to leave by Owen Lars himself. While the presence of the Inquisitorius on Tatooine threatens the fate of the entire galaxy, Owen only cares about keeping Luke safe. As such, he may tell Obi-Wan in no uncertain terms that he has to leave. Either way, it's not hard to see why Obi-Wan will be motivated to leave Tatooine, embarking on a new adventure involving not only the Inquisitors but also Darth Vader himself, who's already been confirmed for the series.
However the series ends, Obi-Wan will eventually make his way back to Tatooine to keep watching over Luke prior to the beginning of A New Hope. This suggests that he'll have somehow found a way to throw the Inquisitors off the trail, and it's safe once more for him to return. Regardless, the fear of a Star Wars plot hole by Kenobi leaving the desert world is non-existent as it will be the best way for him to fulfill his mission when Obi-Wan Kenobi releases May 25th on Disney+.
