Diamonds are one of the most valuable gems that players can find in Breath of the Wild, but there's an easier way to get them than farming for them.
Diamonds are the rarest and most expensive gem in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, making them one of the more difficult materials to find throughout Hyrule. However, Diamonds are not only valuable but are also required to make some of the best weapons available in the game, leaving players pressed to gather them despite the challenge. To make getting more Diamonds easier, players can opt to make a simple trade with a certain NPC in Zora’s Domain rather than search for Diamonds themselves.
Diamonds can be sold for 500 Rupees, but since they’re hard to come by and have plenty of other uses, players might hesitate to sell them as there are better methods of making money in Breath of the Wild. Each of the Champion’s weapons requires one Diamond to replace, but since these weapons are some of the best in the game, they’re well worth the cost. Link can also give three Diamonds to the jeweler in Gerudo Town to get the Diamond Circlet, which not only increases his defense against Guardians, but also grants a 20% boost to damage dealt with Ancient and Guardian weapons as a hidden ability.
Like other gems, Diamonds can be obtained in a variety of ways in Breath of the Wild. Players can increase their chances of getting a Diamond from a Rare Ore Deposit by using a hammer or a similar heavy-hitting weapon, though the chances of finding one of these rare gems are still slim. Diamonds also have a chance to drop from rare Gold and Silver enemies in the game and can be farmed by defeating Stone Taluses. The gem shop in Tarrey Town sells Diamonds for 2,000 Rupees, giving players a guaranteed—yet pricey—method of obtaining them as well. However, the easiest way to get more Diamonds in Breath of the Wild is by trading Luminous Stones with Ledo in Zora’s Domain.
Once Link makes it to Zora’s Domain in Breath of the Wild, he’ll be able to speak with the Zora Architect, Ledo, and obtain the repeatable “Luminous Stone Gathering” side quest to exchange 10 Luminous Stones for one Diamond. Link will get two Diamonds the first time this Breath of the Wild side quest is completed, and after that, players can return and give Ledo an additional 10 Luminous Stones for another Diamond as many times as they want. Since Luminous Stones are easy to find and appear at tons of locations throughout Hyrule, farming them is one of the fastest and easiest ways to get plenty of Diamonds in Breath of the Wild. Ledo can be found near the entrance to Zora’s Domain during the day, but he is unavailable from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Not only are Luminous Ore Deposits one of the more common types of Ore Deposits in Breath of the Wild, but they glow bright blue at night, making them easy to spot from a distance. Players can also track Luminous Ore Deposits with their Sheikah Slate by taking a photo of one to add to the Hyrule Compendium and setting the Sheikah Sensor to locate them. Like Rare Ore Deposits, Luminous Ore Deposits will produce more ore when hit with a hammer or similar type of weapon, and players will often find Flint in these Deposits as well. However, if players are simply trying to make money, it’s better to sell the Luminous Stones than to exchange them for Diamonds since 10 Luminous Stones will sell for 700 Rupees, 200 more than the value of one Diamond.
