Winnemucca man arrested after 3-hour, armed standoff
WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada man wanted on multiple warrants in California was arrested after an armed standoff with sheriff's deputies in Winnemucca over the weekend that began when he allegedly fled the scene of a minor hit-and-run accident.
Humboldt County deputies say they were able to evacuate a woman from a residence Sunday night where 58-year-old Robert Lane Murray of Winnemucca produced a firearm and pointed it at them before he eventually surrendered more than three hours later, according to KRNV-TV.
No one was hurt.
Authorities had identified Murray as a suspect in the hit-and-run crash at about 5 p.m. by tracing a license plate on a damaged bumper that was left at the scene.
The sheriff's office says Murray had threatened suicide during the standoff so he was medically cleared before he was booked into the county jail.
He's been charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts of fugitive from justice. His bail has been set at $165,000. It's not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
