In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker's greatest power is now working against him and causing him great pain.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Amazing Spider-Man #83
In a new preview for Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker's greatest power has been turned against him, becoming his greatest weakness. Recovering in the hospital after a nearly lethal encounter with the U-Foes, the original Spider-Man was subjected to high amounts of radiation poisoning that has left him largely incapacitated. While his clone Ben Reilly has stepped up to take his place while he recovers, it looks as though Peter's next big threat is coming from his own Spider-Sense, as seen in a new look at Amazing Spider-Man #83.
Coming from writer and artist Patrick Gleason, Amazing Spider-Man #83 will see Peter's ongoing treatment in the hospital. Thankfully, Peter can focus on getting healthy again while the new Spider-Man takes care of New York. While Ben Reilly's employers at the Beyond Corporation may not be so trustworthy, Peter does trust Ben, having given him his blessing to become the new and official Spider-Man in his absence.
However, the preview for the upcoming issue reveals that Peter has quite the hurdle ahead of him. Apparently, the original Spider-Man's Spider-Sense has gone haywire thanks to the excess radiation within his body, warning Peter of the danger within rather than external threats. As Spider-Man describes it in the new preview, the painful, blackout-inducing Spider-Sense sensations he's been getting are like "a glove turned inside out." Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the upcoming issue:
- BEYOND, CHAPTER NINE
- The creator behind the biggest cover in the last decade is going to show you what he can do with one of the biggest Spider-Moments in decades, as Patrick Gleason writes and draws this issue. The Web-Head is facing unbeatable odds again. Can he rise to the occasion and save the day?
It seems as though the "unbeatable odds" Peter is facing will largely come from his own powers, seeing as how his Spider-Sense has become extremely debilitating rather than being one of his best assets. Also, based upon the issue's cover, it looks as though Peter might not be laying in bed much longer. Spider-Man's overwhelming sense of responsibility may trump his failing Spider-Sense, even though the best thing for him to do would be to rest rather than make himself worse trying to stop criminals in his condition.
That being said, Spider-Man has overcome sickness and physical limitations before, though arguably none as critical as his current state. While the issue's preview pages tease that Peter's next battle may be within his own mind to restore his Spider-Sense, here's hoping he stays in bed. The full issue of Amazing Spider-Man #83 releases on December 29th.
