A Red Dead Redemption 2 fan created a five-part nature documentary series which Rockstar Games saw and shared via social media and a blog post.
Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 has one of the most expansive open worlds out there and one fan decided to make a full-blown nature documentary about it. The well-made Red Dead Redemption 2 documentary actually caught the attention of Rockstar which boosted the five-part series on its social media and in a blog post, essentially giving the mini-series it's own blessing.
Red Dead Redemption 2's massive world is ripe for exploration. Not only are there countless creatures to see, but there are tons of hidden secrets and mysteries to be discovered. It's quite possibly one of the few open worlds that actually does feel like it lives and breathes, operating independently of the player itself. Much of the wildlife in the game act in unique ways, attacking other animals, eating corpses, and doing things that people would naturally expect the animals to do in real life. It's incredibly detailed and makes it ripe for viewing.
Thankfully, YouTube channel 8-BIT BASTARD captured the scenic world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and combined real-world facts and history with Rockstar's fictionalized version of America in 1899. It really highlights the beauty of nature within Red Dead Redemption 2 and Rockstar recognized the hard work of the creators and shared it in a blog post, clearly impressed by it. The developer loves to share fan-made content and interact with its community, so it's great to see such a well-crafted documentary series getting the spotlight as well.
Many open-world games feature animals and various sights to see, but few do it as well as Red Dead Redemption 2. It's a place that feels alive and always has new tricks up its sleeves, rather than something that gives off the illusion of being more real than it actually is. To see that showcased in this documentary series is great and really lets fans appreciate the world in a relaxing, entertaining way, not too dissimilar from a Planet Earth documentary.
Red Dead Redemption 2 effectively captures nature and all of its beauty but also manages to highlight much of its weirdness. The fact that the attention to detail allowed someone to actually make a documentary series out of it is impressive in its own right and should bode well for whatever Rockstar is planning with the inevitable Grand Theft Auto 6. Whether or not Rockstar ever decides to return to the American frontier with a sequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 remains to be seen, but for now, fans can enjoy this incredible documentary.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
