Smash Bros. Ultimate Patch Fixes Wii Fit Trainer's Accidental Buff

A new patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been rushed out to fix an unintentional buff from the last update, which drastically improved Wii Fit Trainer's Header attack. Wii Fit Trainer's arsenal of moves is based around the exercise techniques from her original game.

The Super Smash Bros. games have added a retro character and an unexpected character with each generation, starting with the Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch in Melee, who were followed by Pit and R.O.B. in Brawl. The 3DS/Wii U retro/unexpected characters were Duck Hunt Duo and Wii Fit Trainer, the latter of which was added because Sakurai knew that no one would expect their addition to the game. The fact that Wii Fit/Wii Fit Plus are collectively the eighth best-selling game of all time might also have contributed to the game's fitness instructor being added to Smash Bros.

The latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate patch is now available and it's hot on the heels of the last one. The previous patch that added Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was only released a few weeks ago. The new patch was rushed out to nerf the Wii Fit Trainer, as she received an accidental upgrade that made her incredibly strong. According to the official patch notes on the Nintendo support website, the 1.1.0.1. update fixes Wii Fit Trainer's Header move and restores it to its previous state.

Wii Fit Trainer's side special is Header, which summons a ball that she headbutts towards the enemy. This move is supposed to have nine frames of recovery after being used. The number of frames was accidentally reduced to four in the last patch. This allowed players to quickly perform combos out of Header, giving Wii Fit Trainer the ability to quickly stunlock and KO opponents. If this unintentional buff had been left in, then Wii Fit Trainer could have become one of the most overpowered Super Smash Bros. characters of all time.

There is a lot of discussion regarding which Super Smash Bros. Ultimate characters are the best in the game, which isn't helped by the patches drastically changing the attributes of each fighter. Wii Fit Trainer was considered a low-tier fighter in the Super Smash Bros. games on the Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, so it's nice that she was briefly one of the most fearsome characters in the series, even if it was due to an error.
