ENGLAND manager Gareth Southgate flopped coaching his boy’s Sunday side.
Southgate, dad to Flynn, now 17, said the players “hated” his stint in charge.
He said: “I was asked to help coach my son’s junior football team.
“As I was a manager at the time, I felt I could at least bring some experience to the role. As it turned out, I struggled to find a way to effectively communicate with players this young.”
He went on in new autobiography Anything is Possible: “As soon as a match started, they all just got over-excited and flocked around the ball!
“It was amusing, but it reminded me my coaching abilities are better suited to working with older players.”
The ex-boss of Middlesbrough, 50, added on the Headliners podcast: “To run a Sunday football team involves so much.
“I loved it – the kids hated it.
“My son doesn’t play football anymore, so just leave it at that.”
