Giants Splash and A’s Plus: Why we’re starting two new baseball newsletters at The Chronicle

Baseball fans have looked to The Chronicle for Bay Area baseball coverage for decades. In 2020 we're doubling down on A's and Giants coverage as part of our mission to deliver the Bay Area's best journalism directly to our readers. Two new newsletters will be part of this shift: Giants Splash and A's Plus.

Starting this season, you'll see tag-team beat coverage: Henry Schulman and John Shea on the Giants and Susan Slusser and Matt Kawahara on the A's. In addition to the weekly insider newsletters, fans will see more stories and analysis, deeper coverage of the farm teams and prospects, and weekly Giants Splash and A's Plus podcasts.

The Sporting Green’s roster is deep in talent and experience. Schulman has been reporting on the Giants for more than 30 years. Slusser literally wrote the book (two!) on the A’s. Shea has covered Bay Area baseball for The Chronicle since the 1980s and has co-written a book with Willie Mays that's publishing soon. Kawahara previously covered the A’s for the Sacramento Bee and most recently was The Chronicle’s Raiders’ writer before the team’s move to Las Vegas. Now, we’re bringing all of them together to provide the most in-depth coverage of the Bay Area's baseball teams that you'll find anywhere.
