SUMNER, Wash. (AP) — Two people were hit by Sound Transit trains — one fatally near Sumner in Pierce County and another near Carkeek Park in Seattle —causing hours-long delays for passengers.
The Seattle Times reports the first pedestrian was struck south of Sumner Station around 5:30 a.m. by Train 1502 Tuesday. Because it was a fatality, the trains were shut down until the medical examiner could investigate.
Another pedestrian was struck by a second train, this one coming from Everett, near Carkeek Park in the Ballard area around 8 a.m. Thompson said the person involved was not fatally injured and the train was reported to be moving again before 9 a.m.
Authorities say a person was killed after being struck by a Sounder train.
Multiple south line trains were stalled after the south line train 1502 out of Lakewood struck a pedestrian early Tuesday morning, according to Sound Transit. The train was on its way to Seattle.
Buses were sent to Puyallup to take passengers to Federal Way, where people can board buses to Seattle.
An investigation continues.
