Maciariello suggested the Saints got more comfortable as the scrimmage progressed against an LIU team that was without guards Alex Rivera and Tre Wood, sitting out the season after transferring from UMass Lowell and UMass, respectively.
"Just want to make sure the guys are detailed-oriented in their approach to execution," he said. "We have to be able to execute when there is tenacious defense. For the most part, I thought guys took a while to acclimate to that, but at the end, we were able to get some stops and work through some things, which I was happy about."
The Saints planned a film session on Monday, followed by a light practice.
"Just looking to grow from it and I think that's all you can do with the closed scrimmages is just a chance to kind of self-evaluate because we're just trying to get better every day,'' Maciariello said.
