Adam Plutko and the Indians one-hit the Orioles

Called up from Triple-A Columbus before Saturday’s game, Cleveland’s Adam Plutko allowed one run in six innings — a solo homer by Trey Mancini for Baltimore’s only hit — and the Indians defeated the visiting Orioles 4-1.

Plutko was optioned to the minors at the end of spring training and didn’t pitch in April because of a strained right forearm. He made two starts for Columbus before being rejoining the Indians.

“It’s always exciting to be out there on a major-league mound, whether it’s your first time back in a while or your 12th consecutive game out there,” Plutko said.

Plutko gave up the home run to Mancini with two outs in the fourth. The right-hander struck out four, walked two and was pulled after throwing 83 pitches. Cleveland used three relievers to finish it.

Marlins 2, Mets 0: Miami starter Pablo Lopez gave up a double on his first pitch, then combined with the Marlins’ bullpen to hold visiting New York hitless the rest of the way. The Mets lost their fourth in a row and fell a season-worst four games under .500. The loss to the team with the majors leagues’ worst record is likely to ramp up speculation that Mets manager Mickey Callaway’s job is in jeopardy.

Astros 7, Red Sox 3: Tyler White’s two-run double capped a five-run first inning, Josh Reddick hit a solo homer and visiting Houston rolled to its 10th straight victory. Michael Brantley had three hits and an RBI for Houston (31-15), which matched the best start in franchise history after 46 games.
