Uber this week started testing a new passenger pick-up procedure at Portland International Airport – one that's designed to put riders into cars quickly and more efficiently.
Instead of matching up a rider to a specific driver via the Uber app in advance of the pickup, the new system assigns a six-digit PIN to a customer looking for an UberX ride from the airport. Once he arrives at the airport pick-up point, the customer will take the first available car in a waiting line of Uber vehicles, and give the PIN to the driver before getting into the car.
