1 School lunch: The yogurt company Chobani plans to pay the school lunch debts of low-income families with students attending a Rhode Island district that made headlines by announcing children who owe money would get cold sunflower butter and jelly sandwiches instead of a hot meal. The office of Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon says it is coordinating with Chobani to accept nearly $50,000, the amount owed by low-income families. Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya tweeted that access to nutritious food should be a right, not a privilege.

2 Shooting ambush: Five men were shot and wounded, one critically, after being ambushed by three teenagers in Philadelphia, authorities said Saturday. Police said three males broke away from a group of around a dozen males walking down a street Friday evening, and surveillance video shows three teenagers shortly afterward firing at the group. Police Commissioner Richard Ross said the teens — estimated at no older than 15 — “were lying in wait waiting for those guys.” No arrests were announced.

3 Chemical spill: A busy commercial waterway near Houston remained partially closed Saturday after a collision involving four vessels that caused a toxic gasoline product to leak into the water. The hull of a 755-foot ship punctured tanks on a tugboat that was pushing two barges along the Houston Ship Channel. One barge capsized Friday, while the other was damaged. The Coast Guard is trying to determine how much reformate leaked into the channel. The gas product is colorless, flammable and toxic to touch, inhale or ingest. The National Weather Service warned that people living nearby will be able to smell gasoline fumes.
