Warriors’ Stephen Curry not fretting about shooting slump
OKLAHOMA CITY — Even the best shooter in NBA history isn’t immune from the occasional shooting slump.
Since the All-Star break, Stephen Curry is averaging 24.4 points — 3.5 below his season average — on 41.1 percent shooting (36.6 percent from three-point range). With Curry struggling (by his lofty standard), the Warriors have gone 5-5.
"I definitely feel like I’m taking shots I feel like I should make," Curry said. "That’ll never change. Just stay aggressive, stay confident. I hope to have the same mentality whether I’m shooting 60 percent from three or 20 percent. You take shots you think you can make because you work on them."
Curry’s shooting form isn’t the problem. Even as the misses mount, he has had his signature style, shooting from a variety of release points, contorting his body to get off shots and hoisting laughably deep threes.
The law of averages suggests that Curry should snap out of his slump soon enough. A career 47.7-percent shooter from beyond the arc, he has needed less than 10 seasons to rank third in NBA history with 2,413 three-pointers.
"We’ve been doing this for a long time and put a lot of work into it," Curry said. "I think you get to a spot on the floor, you have a lot of confidence, you take a shot and live with the results. Your body feels a little adrenaline and you take it from there."
